Cost Control

Our accounting software, estimating process, and labor tracking systems are the foundation for keeping projects on track and on budget. The key elements include:

  • Project Accounting
  • Cost Estimating
  • Labor Tracking Systems

The Project Accounting function of BCH Mechanical’s cost control system is accomplished through our specialized software and customized reporting functions. We customize reports based on actual labor versus estimated labor, full job cost reports, and various other financial reports. We track the financial status of each project on a continuous basis and report exact breakdowns at monthly intervals. The software allows us to efficiently share our progress as the job evolves.

The foundation of our Cost Estimating System is Quick Pen. We have a dedicated staff skilled in estimation of mechanical and plumbing systems. We utilize digitizer boards and Quick Pen software to perform take-off estimates of the commodities including piping, ductwork, and insulation. The values of material are determined from databases that are updated with current prices and labor units. Labor units are derived from years of actual job cost data and factored by job conditions.

The Labor Tracking function of our Timberline software package is essential. History shows that the material cost and subcontract cost usually run in a very tight bell curve to estimated cost, usually less than 1% deviation from estimate. The largest variable in the success of the project comes down to the implementation of labor.

This is just a general overview. We have implemented many industry-leading systems that can save your project significant time and money. Contact a member of the BCH team to learn more.
