Mease Central Utility Plant

Mease CUPThis project is the first phase in a major expansion of Mease, contracted with Skanska USA. For the hospital to expand, the heart of the facility needed to be upgraded. This project includes a new central utility building to handle all of the mechanical, plumbing, and medical gas systems that feed the entire hospital. The key to the project is placing the new systems and then systematically transferring the operation of the old systems without impacting hospital operations.

The new CUP is home to three (3) 1250 Trane centrifugal chillers, three (3) Marley 1250 ton cooling tower, six (6) boilers, medical gas equipment including automatic changeover manifolds and area alarms, a  Triplex domestic water booster pump, a Quadraplex vacuum pump, a Pentaplex compressed air system and water-to-water heat exchangers. There will be an “umbilical” piping system underground from the new CUP to the existing hospital for the new chilled and hot water lines to connect back to the existing systems. The medical gas, vacuum and compressed air systems will also connect to the existing hospital systems. The changeovers are accomplished in phases, planned and executed with time sensitive precision.
