Vacuum Plumbing Systems

Vacuum plumbing systems use vacuum pressure and gravity for the collection and disposal of waste through an above ground piping network. Differential air pressure is utilized to transport waste from toilets, sinks, showers—all plumbing fixtures—through a piping network to a collection tank. The tank maintains the pressure in the piping network and controls the collection and discharge from the system.

Benefits of Vacuum Plumbing Systems

  • Decreased budgets and schedules for construction
  • Reduced water and sewage costs for the owner
  • Increased control and security
  • Lower maintenance requirements

Why Choose a Vacuum Plumbing System?

While a conventional system may be an excellent option for a site with no space restrictions, site issues, or budgeting concerns, a vacuum system can present an advantageous alternative in many situations, including:

  • The renovation of existing space with limited points of connection to sanitary sewer and when waste line trenching is required
  • The presence of site restrictions, such as unstable soil, high water table, etc.
  • To prevent disruption of existing floor slab
  • To avoid soil contamination
  • When limited mechanical space is available
  • To decrease the need for maintenance, specifically main line blockages associated with conventional systems
  • In order to reduce sewage impact fees, due to low water usage

Are They Universally Accepted?

Vacuum plumbing systems have been accepted as a viable alternative for underground piping by the majority of code authorities. Many local and state plumbing codes have approved them for the removal of condensate, grey water, sanitary, and grease waste.

Is Vacuum Plumbing Right for Your Next Project?

Vacuum plumbing systems drastically reduce water and waste treatment expenses. With toilets, for example, an efficient vacuum flush toilet may need only a half gallon of water per flush. This means that the average vacuum system can cut water use by 68%, saving hundreds of thousands of gallons of water each year—millions for a larger facility.
