Clash Detection with Navisworks Software

You may know that BCH has long utilized CAD and Revit® to create accurate, detailed project designs and schedules, yet one of the most important technologies we use may be unfamiliar to you. Navisworks® software, part of the Autodesk family, is used in conjunction with CAD and Revit®, allowing us to better manage our 3D files. It provides a platform for integrating all of the trades, even those with different 3D programs, into one system in order to build a comprehensive and interactive, three dimensional model of each project we perform.

Benefits of Navisworks® Software

With Navisworks®, we can offer exceptional coordination and greater benefits to our clients, including:

  • Prevents collisions in the field
  • Reduces the number of RFIs and change orders typically generated in the design/bid/build method of construction
  • Gives the owner a model to serve as an as-built of the mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection (MEPF) systems
  • Provides the maintenance staff with operation and maintenance information for each piece of equipment installed, including maintenance intervals required, numbers of filters required, belt sizes, lighting requirements, etc.
  • Allows documentation of the last date a piece of equipment was serviced

Bringing the Trades Together for Clash Detection

Navisworks® predicts clashes by combining all of the trades in the virtual world, allowing us to revise plans and schedules to resolve conflicts before construction begins. This saves thousands of man hours that would be spent working through these issues in the field. Doing it right the first time, with a comprehensive 3D representation of the project, preserves valuable resources of time and money.

With Navisworks®, a 3D model of the entire project can be given a virtual walk through. Trades that can be integrated include:

  • Mechanical
  • Plumbing
  • Sheet Metal
  • Medical Gas Systems
  • Chilled and Hot Water Piping
  • Steam and Steam Condensate Piping
  • Air Handling Equipment and Chillers
  • Electrical Conduit and Cable Trays
  • Electrical Lighting Components
  • Structural Beams and Columns
  • Fire Suppressions Systems

BCH has utilized this software to successfully perform numerous projects, including work at Tampa General Hospital, Lakeland Regional Hospital, Mosaic Florida Operations Building, and University of Tampa.
